These homeowners are lucky enough to have quiet backyard the backs up to other larger lots that gives them privacy. However, their suburban lawn suffered from chronic drainage issues. That’s where Outdoor Care came in to transform this backyard into a low maintenance space with – terraced patios, a fire pit, dry river, and an outdoor great room.

MAKING SURE THEIR WISHES ARE MET WITH A LITTLE MORE

Because of the sloping terrain the backyard was always swampy and mushy. Improving the site to enable water to flow through the yard and infiltrate into the ground was a top priority. Now, during heavy rains, water is channeled through the yard and away from the home’s foundation. The drainage issues were put to rest by building a creek bed from real river rocks. Bonus – when the stream bed is dry it adds a Zen element to this already tranquil backyard.

DEALING WITH DRAINAGE

FINDING A SOLUTION FOR A SWAMPY AND MUSHY BACKYARD

The most challenging and equally large part of the project is all the work that is under all the beautiful landscaping and river. All the water from the roof drains off the back corner of the home, and all that water is what has to be directed back and away from the foundation. To start we attached drain tile to all the down spouts with eventually trenching over 200’ of tub in the ground. To also gather all the excessive water our design team created a large entry point pond. All the additional water not coming off the roof needed a channel to find its way into the large drainage system that would eventually take all the water out and far away from the home.

With this project we were able to put our “creating curb appeal” expertise into action for our clients, and we couldn’t be more proud of the final result. Not only did we resolve all the issues, we did so in a beautiful way.
